Leadership Anson 2014 | "Developing a Commitment to Community Through Leadership"

Mission Statement: Developing a commitment to community through leadership.

Leadership Anson 2015 Class

The Leadership Anson (LA) program enjoyed its 19th graduation ceremony on June 16th in the Community Room of Carolinas HealthCare System Anson. Leadership Anson was  created to develop a commitment to community through leadership.  This graduating class totals 284 participants that have completed the program. A number of family, friends, and sponsors of the program attended this special event.

Jodi Davis of the Leadership Anson class started the program by singing “I Want To Leave A Legacy.”  Davis commented that during their time together, they talked about having a heart for the Lord and leaving their legacy for Anson County.

The speaker for the evening was Karen Baucom of Anson County Domestic Violence Coalition.  She has been with the organization for 10 years and has 20 years’ experience with domestic violence. Baucom commented, “We are doing great things in Anson County” and encouraged the group to “get involved to be able to help make a difference.”  A presentation was made to  Baucom and the Anson County Domestic Violence Coalition.  This year’s class gathered donated items from their work places and individuals to assist with victims who have to relocate and need household items. There was also a monetary donation of $250 given  to the organization.  Baucom was very appreciative and thanked everyone.

Testimonials were given from a couple of class members that touched all in  attendance.  LA graduate Gary Henderson mentioned the passing of class member Tammy Almond in February of this year due to cervical cancer.  In honor of her, each class member wore a teal and white ribbon he explained.  Henderson and his wife also wore gray ribbons in honor of her father who passed away this year due to brain cancer.  The class presented Lynn Edwards and Scott Collier with gifts in appreciation of their commitment and passion for Leadership Anson and Anson County.  Chamber Director Lynn Edwards stated that all of the class members learned so much more about Anson County, the community and themselves.  The goal of this program is for those who participate to take what they have learned and use it in a way that will not only better themselves but the community as well.

Each Class member earned a Continuing Education certificate from South Piedmont Community College and received a Leadership Plaque from the Anson County Chamber of Commerce.  These were presented to them by Lynn Edwards, Chamber Director and Scott Collier & Scott Rivers both of  SPCC.
