January 11 -- The Anson County TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY will meet at noon at the Lady Bug Restaurant, 1208 E. Caswell St., Wadesboro. The meeting is open to the public.

January 13 -- The second annual South Central District Local FOODS CONFERENCE will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle. The conference's theme is "Sell Local, Sell Safe" and will feature Dr. Ben Chapman, extension food safety specialist, as the keynote speaker. Other sessions will include "Food Safety from Field to Fork," "Produce for the Public," "From the Kitchen" and "Selling Protein Foods." The conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about local goods as well as those already producing them. The cost is $15 per person, which includes a lunch specializing in local foods. January 13 -- The Anson County Toys for Tots inaugural GRATITUDE BANQUET will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Lockhart-Taylor Center, 514 N. Washington St., Wadesboro. Dr. Stan Sidor, South Piedmont Community College president, will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $10 per person. All proceeds and donations will go into the Anson County Toys for Tots account. January 19 -- The Anson County Cooperative Extension Center, 501 McLaurin St., Wadesboro, will host the free BEE-KEEPING WEBINAR, "Coming Out of Winter," from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Dr. David Tarpy, North Carolina State University associate professor and extension apiculturist, will be the instructor. January 27 -- The Anson County Partnership for Children's annual BARN BLAST will be held from 6:00 p.m. until midnight in the Ingram Room at the Lockhart-Taylor Center, 514 N. Washington St., Wadesboro. Attendees will enjoy dinner, dancing, drinks, auctions and fun. Pre-sale tickets are $35 per person ($45 after Friday, Jan. 13). February 14 -- Wadesboro Civitan Club will hold a Sweetheart Dinner on Tuesday, February 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Welika Lake Fish Camp.  Tickets are $30 per couple.

February 24 -- from 11:30 to 1:30 First Baptist Church Hot Dog Lunch for the Waterbury Mission Team.  Cost will be $5.00 and will include 2 hot dogs and all the fixings.  Eat in, take out, or delivery (8 orders minimum).

February 25 -- Anson New Tech will host a Health Fair on Saturday, February 25th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  There will be twenty topics, each with a free takeaway.  

February 26 -- The Anson County Writers' Club will hold its 23rd annual AWARDS CEREMONY for winners of the 2011 Contests in Prose and Poetry at 3:00 p.m. in the Little Theater at Hampton B.
